There were two winners from North Devon at the Devon FAs inaugural football awards.The awards, which took place at Exeter Racecourse, merged the McDonalds FA Community Awards and the Throgmorton Referee Awards. The ceremony was hosted by BBC Spotlights David Fitzgerald and Premier League referee Roger East. The North Devon Youth League won the McDonalds Charter Standard League of the Year. The league was nominated for its ongoing work, which includes winter futsal sessions and regular round-robins for under 11s. The league also holds coaching development events for the Devon FA, and has a designated Respect officer to ensure Respect across the board. In the last 10 years, the North Devon Youth League has grown from 90 teams to 125. There was also an award for North Devon referee Brett Huxtable, who won the Throgmorton Referee of the Year. Huxtables promotion to the football league was one of the reasons the Torrington referee was nominated. The Devon FA also cited Huxtables commitment to the North Devon Referees Association and his work as a referee assessor. His work supporting newer and inexperienced referees was also considered.
