Sporting Barum shrugged off defeat to Boca Seniors in the Westward Ho! Cup final with an emphatic 8-0 win against Ilfracombe Town Reserves in the Braunton Cup on Sunday.

With both sides unbeaten in the league this season, something had to give and give it certainly did.

Back at Mill Road for their second cup final in seven days, holders Barum were in no mood to relinquish the trophy they won in last year’s final against Hartland.

They stormed the final with goals by Matt Deakin (3), Marcus Mahoney (2), Kriss Boreham, Kyle Spear and Rudi Small.

Manager Josh Pearce said he was delighted with his side’s performance.

“I’m gob-smacked by the result but we came out all guns blazing and deserved it,” he said.

“It was 2-0 at half-time but we came out and didn’t allow them back into it.”

It will be a bitter blow for Ilfracombe, who lead the Senior Division and know that two wins in their last four games would probably land them the title.
