SPORT and safety went hand in hand at the annual Soccersafe tournament, held at Bideford College.

One hundred young people turned up to take part in the competition and to receive invaluable safety advice from emergency and other local organisations.

Young people aged from eight to 13 years who had gained the benefit of a programme soccer training under qualified coaches, rounded off their season with a finals day tournament.

Others had opted for dance training under the guidance of the Streetz Dance crew, which culminated in a competitive dance-off.

The programme was organised by the police, fire service and Torridge District Council, with the support of the RNLI, Tesco, Streetz dance and Bideford FC and Bideford Blues and Appledore youth football clubs.

Alongside the games was advice from the emergency services on personal safety and from Tesco Bideford on nutrition.
