Appledore’s slow start continues with a stalemate against Alphington

APPLEDORE’S slow start to the South West Peninsula season continued with a 1-1 stalemate against Alphington on Saturday.

The mid-table tousle at Marshford produced little in the way of highlights but looked to be heading in Fishermen’s favour with 10 minutes left to play.

After a goalless first half, Roger Bonaparte headed home for Appledore after a good run down the right from Jamie Bright.

Alphington grabbed the equaliser when Dave Wilkes beat goalkeeper Jimmy Thorne from a tight angle.

The point puts Appledore 11th in the table on eight points.

On Saturday, they travel to an Ottery St Mary side still looking for a first win this season.
