SOCCERSAFE is an opportunity for eight and nine-year-old boys and girls to attend a free day of football centred activity. It will be held between 10.30 and 3.30 on July 20 in Victoria Park, Bideford.The event will be hosted by Torridge District Council and Bideford Blues and Appledore Junior Football Club, while the Fire Service, Police and Lifeboat organisations will be on hand to join in the football and also provide important safety advice. The day will include football coaching, safety advice, a "speed goal" competition run by Plymouth Argyle and a 7-a-side mini-tournament. Fire Service Group Commander Neil Blackburn said: " Soccersafe will provide a good opportunity for young people to engage with the emergency services in a sporting environment and, hopefully, learn something that may even save their life. It is also hoped to extend this project to other age groups in the future."Places will be limited and young people wishing to take part will need to pre-register. Application forms have been delivered to primary schools in the Bideford area and can also be collected from Bideford Fire Station or Torridge District Council at Riverbank house during office hours.
