BRAUNTON Wanderers under-10s soccer squad went on a two-hour sponsored silence outside the village's George Hotel to help raise funds to take them to the Guernsey Mini-Soccer Festival in July. The nine boys and two coaches have been invited to attend the festival, but need to raise an estimate of £5,000. Ross Mcphail, Ollie Stevens, Ollie Gardner, Matt King, Harry Watts, Damon Maddock, Tom Greenaway, Sam Oscroft and Stanley Whitaker, coach Simon Maddock and manager Julian Stevens are keen to go and pit their skills against representatives from the likes of Arsenal, Everton and Aston Villa. This was the first of the boys' fundraising events and they collected £150.39. Not a word was spoken, but there were many hand signals and the holding up of "thank you" signs. They also have a big "thank you" for John and Jackie of the George Hotel and all who donated. If anyone else would like to help, contact Julian Stevens on (01271) 815578.
