Bideford's winning start to the season was brought to an end by Swindon Supermarine this afternoon (Saturday).

Josh Parsons' header midway through the first half was the difference between the two sides, as the visitors came away from the Sports Ground with a 1-0 victory.

It was a frustrating afternoon for the Robins, who failed to get out of second gear in the first half, and despite an improved attacking display in the second, could not find the net.

Those frustrations were laid bare in injury time when Matt Bye was shown a straight red card for a petulant challenge on Swindon substitute Ryan Campbell.

Bideford will now have to dust themselves down and pick themselves back up for a derby clash at Barnstaple Town on bank holiday Monday.

The Bideford defence had been unbeaten leading up the match - their fourth of the season - but Parsons became the first person to find the net 24 minutes into the game.

An attempted clearing header from Steven Reed only went as far as Aaron Woodley on the right wing. His cross was met by Connor Thompson beyond the far post, who clipped a ball back towards the penalty spot for the number 10 to flick a header beyond Steve Oliver and into the corner.

It was no more than Swindon deserved. In truth they limited the Robins to very little in the way of clear cut chances in the first half, the best of which came with the last kick of the first half when Ryan Turner's had a shot held by goalkeeper Josh Hill.

The Robins came out after the break with much more intent, and they were nearly rewarded within a minute of the restart when Craig Duff went through on goal, but the forward couldn't get a meaningful touch and the danger was snuffed out by Hill and Ryan Morgan.

Sean Joyce brought Brian Levien on for Kevin Squire and moved Duff into the middle with Ryan Turner as Bideford looked to press the Swindon defence.

They did just that, but despite some excellent link-up play between Duff and Billy Tucker in particular, the Robins couldn't get the breakthrough.

Tucker came closest to equalising for Bideford after running at the Swindon defence and firing a shot in from the edge of the box with the outside of his boot, but his effort was just over the bar.

Frustration boiled over into stoppage time when Bye was given his marching orders for an apparent stamp on Campbell.
