BIDEFORD were beaten for the second time in a week in the Zamaretto Southern League on Saturday.
The Robins were no match for Hampshire side Gosport Borough and slipped to a 4-1 defeat - their third in consecutive league and cup games.
With Dominic Rivans and Rob Francis both out the side due to injury, Bideford made the seven-hour round trip with Nick Barker in the starting line-up. Striker Kevin Squire made his first start this season in place of Matt Andrew, who took his place on the substitutes' bench.
Both sides had chances to take the lead in the first half but Bideford's Matt Armstrong-Ford was the busier of the two keepers.
After making saves from James Taylor and Justin Bennett - and seeing a Paul Cox goal ruled out for a foul - Armstrong-Ford was unable to keep out Cox's lobbed effort as he broke the deadlock for the hosts before the break.
Cox, who signed for Gosport from Salisbury the day before the match, doubled the advantage from 10 yards soon after the restart.
Bideford replied almost immediately when Jamie Mudge forced a good save from Grant Porter and new boy Cox had another goal disallowed before Mudge gave the Robins a lifeline with a penalty kick 20 minutes from time.
But there was to be no comeback as Ian Jones picked his way through a weary-looking Bideford defence to fire the hosts' third on 76 minutes.
With 10 minutes to play, Bennett hit the fourth to secure the win.
With two wins and two defeats in the league so far, Bideford will be looking to tip the balance with a double header of home fixtures this week.
On Saturday, they play Chipping Sodbury team Yate Town, while on Tuesday, Bristol side Almondsbury Town make the trip to North Devon.
