TWO of the season’s most successful clubs signed off at the weekend with further triumphs as their reserve teams clinched promotion places.
Following their first team’s triple trophy wins, Torridgeside Reserves added one more reason for the club to celebrate as they won promotion from Intermediate One.
After grinding out a 2-1 win over close rivals Landkey midweek to put themselves on course, the reserves clinched second spot on Saturday with a 2-0 win away to Anchor Chiefs. Both their goals came in the second half, from Adrian Seeley and Drew Sullivan.
It means Torridgeside Reserves will climb up a division alongside champions Barnstaple FC for the second season in succession.
The pair came up into Intermediate One together only this season, having finished in similar one-two positions in Intermediate Two the previous term.
Having already won the title by a comfortable margin, a makeshift Barnstaple FC side brought their programme to a close with only their second league defeat of the season, by a resounding 6-0 away to Woolacombe.
But they also had reason to celebrate, with their reserves clinching promotion, too, in only their first season in the league.
The reserves rounded off a strong Intermediate Two run-in with a 3-0 win at home to Georgeham Reserves midweek with goals by James Jenkins, Callum Josselyn and Dan Squires and a 9-0 cruise at home to Lynton Reserves on Saturday, with Callum Goss hitting a hat-trick and other goals from Keith McClure 2, Kevin Shaddick, Dan Squires and Tom Bloomer.
This enabled them to pip long-time contenders Buckland Brewer by a single point.
