A classy performance from Park United meant they lifted the Albert Beer Memorial Shield for the second year in a row on Friday.

Park beat Braunton 5-0 in the North Devon Football League’s curtain raiser, which was played at Appledore’s Marshford ground.

After winning the shield as Brayford Cup winners last year, they did so as North Devon Premier champions this time out, with Phil Kelly opening the scoring after 25 minutes.

A lobbed finish from Mark Hill saw the Sandymere side go into half-time 2-0 up.

The lead had doubled by the time 10 second-half minutes had passed. First Dan Crouch tapped in from close range, followed minutes later by a Ricky Marinaro corner going straight in.

Park made it 5-0 with five minutes of the 90 remaining when Dave Brown finished after being played through by John Downing.

Both teams get underway in the Premier this Saturday. Park have a home game against Torridgeside, while Braunton welcome Ilfracombe Town Reserves to Lobb Field.
