Six volunteers from North Devon were recognised at the Devon FA’s AGM.

Six of North Devon’s volunteers have been recognised for their contributions to football in the area.

Devon FA gave long service awards to Alan Stevens, Dave Langford, Michael Brennan, Ian Hart, Gina Maynard and Peter Evans at its AGM, held last month at the Barnstaple Hotel.

Stevens was honoured for his role at Barnstaple AAC, where he was involved in many playing and coaching roles from 1978 until the club’s final game in May.

Langford was given the award for his work coaching players of all ages at Hartland and Exeter City’s North Devon Academy.

Michael Brennan was recognised as one-club man, with over 50 years dedicated to Appledore FC, assuming almost every role at the club in that time.

Referee Ian Hart, who has spent the last few years refereeing in the North Devon Gazette Football League, was honoured for his 45-year career.

There were also awards for grassroots personalities Gina Maynard and Alan Evans.

Maynard founded SAS in 1999, with the club enjoying huge amount of success, as well as developing successful players now playing for the likes of Barnstaple Town and Boca Seniors.

Evans has coached Bideford primary schools from 1975 right up until 2009, as well as coaching at Bideford Blues since 1981.

Evans is now the secretary for the North Devon Youth League and was instrumental in bringing the Sandymere complex to fruition.
