Brewer cook up a storm against South Molton

MARCUS Jarvis and Simon Adams scored nine goals between them as Buckland Brewer smashed South Molton 14-0 in Intermediate Two on Saturday.

Brewer took just 12 seconds to get going against the North Devon Gazette League’s bottom side, Sean Freeman the first to score past the visitor’s stand-in goalkeeper.

Jarvis followed up with his first of five goals just a minute later and Brewer rarely took their foot off the gas during a torrid 90 minutes for the Images.

Arran Brooks and Simon Adams doubled the tally within 10 minutes and Adams scored two more, including a penalty, before Jarvis helped himself to two more himself.

Defender Ben Dooley scored a header to make it 9-0 at half-time and Jarvis (2), Adams, Dan Vanstone and Ryan Leworthy added more in the second half to complete one of Buckland’s biggest ever wins.

Manager John Adams said South Molton’s players deserved credit for not giving up and still managing to smile after the game.

Molton spokeseperson Dave Filer said were it not for defender Tony Newnham, the score line could have been far greater.

He said: “South Molton must have had 10 shots on goal, and Buckland Brewer’s keeper saved all 10. Buckland had 15 shoots on target and scored 14.

“Full credit to the South Molton lads, they did keep going – well they only had one sub, so they had to!”

Sam Hommel scored two and Matthew Dellar scored one as Pilton Academicals Reserves beat Northam Lions Thirds 3-0.

In the day’s other result, Chittlehampton Reserves and Anchor Chiefs shared the points in a 4-4 draw.
