ILFRACOMBE Reserves are the new leaders of the North Devon Gazette League Premier Division after victory at home to Appledore Reserves on Saturday.

With a fistful of five teams vying for position at the top Ilfracombe took advantage of North Molton being out of action to leapfrog two points ahead.

Prolific scoring Mark Gilfilin kept up his record with the opening goal on 40 minutes to make the difference in a closely-contested opening half.

Colin Woodcock struck again 15 minutes after the break to complete the scoring.

Braunton maintained their challenge in third place with a 4-1 result at Dolton.

But is was a harder-earned three points than the scoreline might suggest.

After taking the lead, they were pulled back to 1-1 late in the opening half before an added time second enable them to change ends 2-1 ahead. They then pulled away in the second half, with two more goals, their scores coming from Elliott Whitecross (2), Jake Barwick and an own goal.

Boca Seniors also maintained their challenge, lifting ahead of Torridgeside into fourth place with a 4-1 win away to Putford.

Depleted Shamwickshire drafted in five second-team players for their match away to Shebbear and came home winners 5-2.

Their goals came from Ben Evans (2), James Bateman, Dean Moran and Paul Phipps.

Georgeham and Croyde were also 4-1 winners at home to Torrington, Joe Budd opening the scoring and others coming from Alex Marks, Dave Newsom and a headed goal by 6ft 7ins defender Ali McGiver before Torrie gained a late consolation.

Bradworthy took the honours at home to bottom-of-the-table Combe Martin 2-1 with goals by Tudor Placinta and Xien Witt.
