The first league cup of the North Devon Gazette Football League season went to Fremington Reserves on Saturday.

Fremington Reserves got their hands on the North Devon Journal Cup on Saturday, beating Combe Martin Reserves 5-1.

There were five headed goals in the clash between two sides in excellent form.

Fremington were quick out of the blocks and quickly built up a three-goal lead thanks to headed goals from James Galliford, Neil Armstrong and Dan Ferne.

But a Will Lovett header allowed Combe Martin to get a foothold in the game, and Combe began to assert themselves on the tie.

It was Ferne who settled the tie, however, his header at the back post looping back across the goal and into the top corner.

Galliford got his second with a penalty in the final minute after Kevin Waters was brought down in the box.

Fremington manager Mark Tucker said: "It's a great win for us and it was a comfortable win in the end.

"It was a superb defensive display, and it was a great platform for us to get the goals through some clinical headers.

"It's my first season as manager, and I'm delighted to end it with some silverware."
