APPLEDORE opened their Carlsberg SW Peninsula League campaign in style with a 3-0 win in Division 1 East at home to Alphington.

The Fishermen had to weather an early storm from the visitors, but after taking the lead on half-an-hour they never looked back. A Gary Skinner shot rebounded into play and Russell Harrison was there to put it into the net.

Maintaining their 1-0 lead at the break, Appledore came out strongly after the re-start, but had to wait until the final quarter-hour before increasing their lead through substitute Will Gammon.

Richard Hevingham then made certain with 10 minutes to go when he knocked in a cross from Shaun Downing.
