Children in North Devon are being offered the chance to experience top class football coaching. The FA Tesco Skills Programme is coming to the Bideford Blues home at Sandymere, Northam, on August 27 and 29, offering free sessions with FA youth coaches for five-11 year-olds. The nationwide programme, launched in 2007, has already provided first class coaching to over four million children, and has now been expanded following investment from The FA, Tesco and Sport England. The core values of the FA Tesco Skills programme are about getting active, learning new football skills and enjoying the game but weve also got the Skills Extra initiative which identifies talented boys and girls and gives them a chance to develop their football education, said the FAs director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking. It is based on a unique four-corner coaching model from The FA, developing children socially, technically, physically and psychologically and making it the leading youth football programme in England. The programme gives them more than just football skills - life skills such as confidence, teamwork, decision making and problem solving are also central to the coaching. A recent survey revealed that 93% of parents have seen an increase in their childs confidence after attending an FA Tesco Skills session. The Devon FA Tesco Skills team will be at Tesco, Bideford on August 20 from 2pm-5pm to answer questions about the programme and provide more information about the two dates in North Devon.
