Barnstaple Water Polo Under 17 team chalked up county league wins at home and away, beating visiting Exeter 10-6 and returning from a trip to Devonport with a 16-6 success.

The match at home to Exeter had an even start, with the score 2-2 at the end of the opening two quarters. But then Barnstaple pulled steadily ahead, Sam Wordley scoring seven goals and Nick Moore three.

At Devonport, the home team’s main threat was Alex Wilson, who scored five of their six goals. He would have had more, but for close marking by Torin Lawson, with other Barnstaple members dropping back on to him when he was in possession.

But Devonport were unable to cope with the swimming and shooting power throughout the Barum team, with four goals each by Nick Moore and Sam Wordley, three by Rob Squire, two each by brothers Tom and Will Hutchens and one by Ross Oliver.
