AS the season and the sun hot up, North Devon Gazette League teams are now doubling up on their weekend action.
Premier Division leaders Braunton had a double date with Bradworthy, winning them both.
On Saturday they came home 4-1 winners in the league, to maintain their comfortable 13-point cushion at the top.
A Graham Green goal gave them a 1-0 half-time lead and Elliott Whitecross doubled it early in the second half. Bradworthy pulled one back with 15 minutes to go, but Simon Townsend and Tom White hit two more to quickly make the game safe.
Next day was much closer affair, however, as Braunton made progress to the Westward Ho! Cup semi-finals with a 3-2 win.
They went 2-0 ahead with a bullet header from Callum Norman and another headed goal from Scott Maynard. Bradworthy pulled one back before Graham Green made it 3-1 at the break. A second Bradworthy goal 10 minutes from time made for a nailbiting finish.
Ilfracombe Reserves maintain second spot after their comfortable 3-0 result away to Shebbear, despite having to draw on three of their third team players.
Ron Taylor smashed in an unstoppable shot after 15 minutes and Mark Gilfillan made it 2-0 by half-time.
The second half saw third teamers Jordan Alcock and Dan Wright team up for the third. Alcock put a 25-yard pass over the top and Wright was there to knock it home.
North Molton’s hopes of league honours took a knock with their third defeat in a row 3-0 away to Torridgeside.
Goals by Marc Bettis (2) and Nathan Walters gave relief to Torridgeside, who had themselves gone several weeks without a win.
Third placed Boca Seniors remain in ominous form, snapping up two more weekend wins.
They followed up a 4-1 league win over Combe Martin with 2-0 progress to the Westward Ho! Cup semis at the expense of Putford the next day.
Putford had also been in action the previous day, beating Torrington 2-0 in the league. Bradley Prouse hit their opening goal after 15 minutes and Matthew Coles made it 2-0 before the break.
Shamwickshire had a good 4-1 result at home to the improving Barnstaple AAC with what a club spokesman described as their best display of the season so far.
Sam Schiller netted their first and Ross Glover curled one in from the corner to make it 2-0 at half-time. Ammies pulled one back, but Will Nicholls hit two in the second half to make the game safe.
Bratton Fleming gained a much needed win to keep them comfortably away from the relegation zone, scoring three without reply away to Georgeham and Croyde,
Neil Tweedie scored twice in the opening half, but Bratton then had to soak up early second half pressure before Matt Beveridge – who had assisted in both Tweedie goals – netted their third.
