SENIOR Division side Park United were given a scare in round one of the Braunton Cup on Sunday. Park went behind twice against an Anchor Chiefs side 33 places below them in the North Devon League before overpowering their opponents in a 6-2 win. Sixteen-year-old striker Liam Shaxton and Wayne Jeffery scored for the underdogs in the first half as Park could only manage a single goal by Kevin Buck. Buck added two more after the break to notch his fifth hat-trick of the season and their were three goals for Mark Pooley as Park showed their superiority in the second period. In the same competition, Greg Mitchell, Martin Davey, Shaun Sluggett and James Vanstone all scored for Shebbear in a 4-1 win against Shamwickshire Rovers Reserves at the Pollyfield Centre on Sunday. The hosts were already 2-0 down by the time they had a player sent off five minutes after the half-time break. The set-back spurred a brief Shammy comeback, Chris Sanders pulling a goal back. But after missing a hatful of chances to level, the extra man took its toll in the end and Shebbears superiority shone through as they went on to score their third and fourth.
