Ilfracombe 2-1 Appledore

Ilfracombe got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Appledore at home on Monday night.

Combe had two new signings in the starting line up, Kurtis Parkin made his debut in goal and Lee Roy Cochrane was making his first appearance back at the club after moving back to the area. He started at centre half along side Craig Allan who has committed himself to Ilfracombe for another season after also training with Bideford recently.

Combe had created a number of near misses before Steve Holland took a quick throw which resulted in Stan Paxton outmuscling the visiting defender and smashing his shot into the back of the net.

Ten minutes later he combined brilliantly with brother Frank to make it 2-0. Stan raced clear down the left hand side and crossed for Frank to power home his first for the club with a near post diving header.

The second half became slightly disjointed as both teams made a number of changes.

And Appledore did break through when they whipped in a cross from the left which took a wicked deflection off Luke Evans and left Parkin powerless as it flew into the back of the net.

"We played well," said manager Ross Middleton.

"These games are about asking the lads to play in a certain way and they showed they understand that tonight.

"Kurtis played very well in goal, you wouldn't think he was making his debut and it was good to see Lee Roy back in a Combe shirt, he'll get better as he gets fitter so it was a good work out for the squad tonight."

Ilfracombe now play Boca at home tonight (Wednesday) and visit Bideford on Saturday.
