TWO early goals in a minute gave third-placed Combe Martin a 2-1 win at home to Bude.
Skipper Joe Seldon netted after 10 minutes and Rudley Watkins added the other on 11 minutes to give Combe a lead they held until Bude pulled back a last-minute consolation.
South Molton’s sterling bid to get out of the two bottom spots has fallen just short.
Beaten 4-2 at Bude midweek, Molton came back with a 6-3 win at home to fellow strugglers Shamwickshire Reserves on Saturday. But, with their programme complete, they have only Pilton Academicals below them and still trail Shammy on goal difference.
Josh Hicks (3), James Cambell (2) and Joe Southcott scored for Molton, with Tom Griffin netting a hat-trick for Shammy.
Having occupied bottom spot for the first half of the season, Ashwater’s spectacular second-half rise, with the aid of some Holsworthy additions, now sees them in eighth place.
The weekend brought a 5-2 result at home to Northam Lions, with goals by Dom Abbot (2), Ben Potter (pen), Steve Sweeney and an own goal. This was followed by an 8-3 win away to Pilton Academicals on Sunday, with Damion O’Meara stepping up from the Kingsley League reserve team to net four times and the others coming from Billy Hopcroft (2), Mitchell Snell and Luke Potter.
Woolsery were 2-1 winners at Pilton on Saturday thanks to goals by Mischa Howe and Ashley Glover. Pilton replied with a late penalty by Carl Blair.
Park United were 6-1 winners on Saturday at home to Lynton, who also lost 3-1 at home to North Molton Reserves midweek.
