Toolstation Western League

A SINGLE goal, but a classic, gave Ilfracombe the spoils away to Street in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

From a Street corner midway through the opening half, four passes took Ilfracombe the length of the field in a counter-attack that ended with Ryan Turner scoring.

Neil Bettis headed the corner clear and the ball fell to Turner, who flicked it on to Ross Middleton, whose pass to Sean Lewis saw the striker outpace the home defence and square the ball neatly back to Turner to tap in.

The win was just reward for Ilfracombe, who dominated the possession in the opening half.

Street used the long ball to try and keep their visitors under pressure after the break, but Ilfracombe always looked dangerous in counter attack.

A solid, if not spectacular, performance earned them the win.

A potentially lucrative home tie in the FA Vase against Gloucestershire side Winterbourne from the Hellenic League awaits Ilfracombe this Saturday.

Barnstaple were only able to take advantage of one of their two penalty chances away to Brislington and came home beaten 2-1 in a game in which both goalkeepers played major roles.

The Bristol side took the lead after 12 minutes with a penalty of their own when Barnstaple keeper Luke Purnell brought down an oncoming forward. They had the better of the opening half and were only denied a second by Purnell, who tipped over a fierce goalbound shot.

But there was no denying Brislington just before the break and they changed ends 2-0 ahead.

On 55 minutes it was the Brislington keeper who saved their day when he pulled off a great save to thwart Ricky Marinaro from the penalty spot.

But when the home keeper then brought down Steven Shore it was Kevin Darch who pulled one back for Barnstaple.
