BIDEFORD Football Club's hopes of silverware this season were dashed on Saturday with a 5-2 extra-time defeat by Dawlish Town in the Les Phillips Cup final. The Robins took the league runners-up to the wire in an end-to-end encounter in front of a 600-strong crowd. After going 1-0 down early on, Bideford hit back through Robbie Gough to make it one-apiece going at half-time. The South Devon side pulled ahead again after the re-start before Tom Stocco fired in a second equaliser on 65 minutes. As the game moved into a nail-biting extra 30 minutes, Dawlish made it 3-2 and then dealt a sucker punch with a fourth soon after. That was that as far as the Robins were concerned, although Dawlish hammered a final nail to make in 5-2 late on."It was a great game and the lads put on a good performance," said club secretary Kevin Tyrell. "Both sides had chances to win it and it could have been a lot different if lady luck was on our side.
