Kingsley Latham, 18, has been signed up by Southampton Football Club

Braunton goalkeeper Kingsley Latham has signed for Premier League side Southampton.

The 18-year-old has joined Southampton Football Club Academy as a second-year scholar after completing a move from League Two side Yeovil Town.

The former Braunton Academy student learned his trade at the Southampton Academy held at Chivenor and run by Lee Barrow.

He started his football league career with Torquay United before leaving to sign a scholarship with the Glovers.

He has now signed terms that will see him remain at Southampton until June 2018.

"It's an opportunity that I want to grab with both hands," said Kingsley.

"It's a great honour to sign for such a big club with such a rich history of bringing young players through.

"I knew there was interest last month and have been down here for a few days and played a couple of games. But when I found out there was interest in signing me I knew I couldn't miss out."

Academy manager Matt Hale added: "We are delighted to bring Kingsley in. He is a young goalkeeper with great potential, and someone we feel we can really work with and help develop over the next few years.

"He is a very switched on young lad and I am sure will be looking forward to coming in and working hard with Vince [Barton, goalkeeping coach] and the rest of the goalkeepers."
