Liam Loftus was also on target for Braunton in the win at Marlborough Park last Tuesday night (March 13).

Charlie Wright scored the consolation goal for Barnstaple.

Braunton started the game strongly, and capitalised on their momentum by scoring the first goal.

Barnstaple came back strongly and equalised 10 minutes before half time. Max Ryan’s strike from 20 yards out had resulted in the save of the night from the Braunton goalkeeper Jack Darby, who got a strong hand on the ball to tip it onto the bar.

Wright reacted the quickest to tap in the resulting rebound.

The second half provided end-to-end football and despite good chances for both sides, neither could find the breakthrough in normal time

Braunton were the stronger team in extra time, going on to win 5-1 and set up a final against either Bideford Blues, Appledore or Ilfracombe.

Braunton coach Mark Sparvell said Soli Plaza was outstanding at sweeper, and Kieran Magson captained the team magnificently.

Barnstaple coach Lee Green congratulated Braunton and said it was one of the best youth football matches he’d been involved with as a coach.

He added: “We ran out of steam in the end but there was great mutual respect showed at the end of the game by both clubs, who enjoyed some food and drinks together afterwards.

“The players, parents and coaches will have a lasting memory of playing a cup semi-final under the flood lights at Marlborough Park, a great experience for everyone and one I would recommend to others.”

He also wished Braunton well for the final and thanked Ilfracombe AFC for the use of their facilities.

Thanks also went to referee Dave Bennett, assistant referees Dave Flynn and Allan Craig and to parents for their support.
