Three goals in seven minutes steer Bideford to a 4-1 win
A ruthless second half spell helped Bideford charge up to third in Evo-Stik League South West this afternoon.
Three goals in seven minutes propelled the Robins to a 4-1 win over Larkhall Athletic at the Sports Ground.
A solo goal from Billy Tucker completed a comeback and put the Robins into the lead with 56 minutes on the clock and the home side quickly ran away with it after Sean Downing and Ben Seymour found the net shortly after.
Bideford once again had to battle back from behind though. Larkhall had taken the lead after four minutes through Greg Peel, but Ryan Turner headed in from a corner on 28 minutes for the equaliser.
Salisbury’s draw at Cinderford and Evesham United’s loss to Taunton means the win takes the Robins up to third and a point away from second-placed Bristol Manor Farm.
Bideford had barely got settled into the game when Greg Peel gave the visitors the lead after four minutes.
In scenes similar to last week’s draw against Cinderford, the Robins couldn’t clear their lines from a corner, and Peel was on hand to hook his left foot around the ball and send it into the top corner.
Bideford almost replied immediately. Sean Downing worked hard to dribble through the Larkhall defence and into the box, but his shot floated just wide of the post.
Just as set pieces got Bideford back into the game at Cinderford, a Matt Bye corner helped Bideford get a foothold on the game with the equaliser after 28 minutes.
Bye rejected Tucker’s calls for a short corner and instead lofted an in-swinger in to the path of Turner, who leapt to head high into the goal.
The Robins had been knocking on the door before then, Dan Harrison saw a header go over the bar, and Tucker had a shot well saved by Shaun Semmens.
The winger eventually beat the Larkhall keeper after the break to give the hosts the lead.
A quick free kick from Bye released Tucker, who knocked the ball past Dan Restorick to go one on one with Semmens. While his initial effort at goal was tame, he kept on running and when the Larkhall keeper spilled his effort, Tucker was there to capitalise and stab the ball home.
Three minutes Bideford had a third. With the ball coming to him 25 yards out, Downing produced a wonderful touch to knock the ball past Jacob Cox and proceeded to dribble towards the edge of the box, where he fired a left-footed shot past Semmens and into the corner.
Seymour wrapped the win up after 63 minutes, capitalising on a loose ball from the visitors to beat the offside trap and smartly finish for his fourth goal in two games.
