Bideford Ladies suffered their first league defeat of the season in the South West Women’s Football League Western Division on Sunday.

The Robins were beaten 4-1 by Plymouth Argyle’s development side in what was their first loss in the league since March 18.

Beth Ellis gave the visitors the lead with a wonder goal from distance, but Plymouth were able to catch them out on the counter-attack to equalise.

A well-struck free kick gave goalkeeper Zoe Stock no chance to give the Pilgrims the lead before half time.

Two second-half goals from the hosts killed off any chance of a Bideford comeback.

Faye Ivall finished the game with two goals, and there was one each for Gabi Alphous and Alex Hugh.

Bideford, who have been buoyed by support from Bideford Bridge Trust to help them keep up with some of the expenses associated with the regional league, turn their attentions to the Devon Senior Cup this Sunday.

This time they are at home to Argyle’s first team, with kick-off against the South West Premier side, which includes England U20 international Jessie Jones, at 2pm.
