A moment of inspiration from striker Jordan Charran set pulses racing at the Sports Ground on Saturday – but it was not enough to give Bideford all three points against Cambridge City in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier.

Charran broke the deadlock for the hosts on 25 minutes with a 25 yard effort that flew past goalkeeper Zac Barratt into the top corner.

The goal signalled a period of dominance for Bideford, fresh from a 3-1 win against Hamworthy United in the Emirates FA Cup on Tuesday.

Kevin Squire was unlucky not to make it 2-0 with a header that skimmed the crossbar.

A minute later, he had a shot well saved by Barratt, who then came to the rescue again when he raced from his line to make a great save at the feet of Ben Wood.

Despite their efforts, Bideford gifted the Lilywhites an equaliser three minutes before the break when a mix-up at the back let Michael Malcolm in on goal.

There were plenty of chances in the second half but both sides held firm to share the points.

Bideford travel to Frome tonight (Wednesday), before facing National South side Gosport Borough in the FA Cup on Saturday. On Tuesday they are at home to Poole Town.
