NEIL Bettiss equalised for Ilfracombe in a bittersweet win for the Bluebirds at Corsham Town on Saturday.

Riding high on the back of a mid-week 3-1 win against rivals Barnstaple Town, Ilfracombe would have hoped for more than a point against a Wiltshire side without a point on the board in their previous opening three encounters.

But Bettiss' second-half equaliser was the only joy the visitors had in front of goal despite a number of good chances to extend a winning league run to four games.

Ilfracombe are at home to Tavistock in the first round (qualifying) of the FA Vase on Saturday.

Meanwhile, there was early season FA Cup heartache for the remainder of the North Devon side's still in this season's famous competition.

Barnstaple were thoroughly beaten 7-2 by Wessex Premier League champions and Dorset Senior Cup winners, Poole Town, despite goals by Andrew Rogers and Stan Paxton.

Meanwhile, Bideford lost 3-1 away to Bristol-based side Paulton Rovers.

The Southern Football League Division One South and West side were too strong for their North Devon opponents, who will now play Tiverton in the next round.

With the higher-league hosts leading by three goals with an hour played, Kevin Squire found the net again to give the Robins a late consolation.

Bideford will be turning their attention back to the league on Saturday when they travel to Dawlish Town.

Barnstaple are at home in the league to Bristol Manor Farm at the weekend.
