AFTER a good start, Bideford Ladies failed to overcome their North Devon rivals Barnstaple Town on Sunday. A 3-1 defeat in the Mill Road derby was Bideford's second loss in the Devon Women's League Premier Division. Barum were rocked early on after conceding an early Alice Rivans goal from distance. But they used the goal as a wake up call and began to push forward, their hard work eventually rewarded when Jodie Dixon found the back of the net to level the score. The home side wasted several good chances, Hannah Passmore seeing her shot hit the post and Andrea Mules having a chance cleared off the line. Town took the lead on the half hour mark, Dixon latching on to a Leanne Cording through ball and slotting home from the edge of the area.In the second half, Dixon completed her hatrick with a superb shot on 70 minutes, . The goal ended Bideford's hopes of salvaging a point and gave Barnstaple their second win of the season. Georgeham and Croyde's miserable run continued. They lost 11-2 to Phoenix. Georgeham are yet to win a match this season and remain rooted at the bottom of the Division One table. In Division Two, Torridgeside were forced to withdraw from the Devon women's league due to a lack of players.www.northdevon.gov.uk
