Could you volunteer some of your time to help youngsters develop their love of football?

Barnstaple Youth FC is on the lookout for new coaches to help some of the club’s youngest members take their first steps into the game.

The FA Community Club, which provides football to more than 130 children aged five to 15, needs help running the Mini Kickers programme for under sixes. Coaches are also needed to run new under 7s and under 8s teams.

No previous coaching experience is necessary as FA Level One training will be provided, but a love of the game and an enthusiastic, friendly manner is a must.

If you can help, or would like more information about what’s involved, email club secretary Dave Beer at

The club is also urging Tesco shoppers to lend their support at the supermarket’s latest Bags For Help Scheme.

Barnstaple Youth FC is in the running for funding for courses and equipment, as are Pete’s Dragons and Kings Nympton Primary School.

Shoppers have until Friday, August 31 to vote for the cause they’d like to support by popping a plastic token in a special container by the checkouts in the three Barnstaple stores.

The cause with the most votes will receive £4,000, with £2,000 for second place and £1,000 for third place.
