The FA confirmed the news of Barnstaple’s promotion yesterday (Thursday).

Barnstaple Town will be playing football in the Southern League next season.

Their promotion was confirmed yesterday when the FA released club allocations for the non-league season ahead.

The step up means Barnstaple will play in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West next season.

Barnstaple finished second in the Toolstation Western League Premier and already knew that their ground at Mill Road had met the criteria for Southern League Football.

Manager Barry Yeo was delighted to have the news confirmed.

“We were pretty certain it was going to happen, but it’s good to finally get the confirmation, so of course we’re delighted,” he said.

“The phone hasn’t stopped ringing from other clubs congratulating us and wishing us well for next season.

“It’s going to be a big challenge for us, and me and Baggs (assistant manager Karl Baggaley) have already started making sure we’re as prepared as we can be.

Barnstaple are promoted to the Division One South and West alongside Salisbury and phoenix club Hereford.

There will also be exciting ties against Tiverton Town, Taunton Town and Bideford.

Yeo is keen for his players, who have been promoted two seasons running, to have a crack at the next step.

“The players have done what they’ve done best for two seasons now,” he said.

“We’ve already done a lot of work and we’re confident with what we’ve got and we are looking to add more.”

“I was told last year that we would need to get a lot of players in after promotion - I only brought in two and we’ve got results all season, so the lads deserve a crack at it.”
