Jasmine Chesters takes over position as uncertainty seems to be over

BARNSTAPLE Town have elected a new chairman to their committee.

The club elected Jasmine Chesters at a meeting on Thursday, and also brought five new members on board after several board members stepped down in recent weeks.

Former chairman Warren Crossley and youth community officer Lee Smith left over fractious relations with the rest of the board, while club historian John Clarke, Paul Turner and Chris Peyton have also left their posts for family reasons.

Mrs Chesters said: “I was involved with the club some eight or nine years ago so it has given me exceptional pleasure to be asked back in this capacity.”

In a statement from the club, manager Barry Yeo, as well as the club’s sponsors and supporters, were all thanked for their support.

Mrs Chesters added in the statement: “I visited the home game on Saturday, and managed to meet as many people as I could.

“The feeling amongst the supporters was very positive and we look forward to moving on with a newly reinforced and strong committee.

“I intend to be present at all our home matches and welcome comments from all so please don’t be afraid to approach me.”
