Hengrove Athletic 0-4 Barnstaple Town

Barnstaple Town celebrated their 2,500th game in the Western League with a 4-0 win at Hengrove Athletic.

Tuesday night's win saw Barnstaple break the club record for most points won in a season – now 91 – which has stood since 1993/4.

And, more importantly for manager Barry Yeo and his team, it leaves Town needing just one more point from their final four games to secure a top two place and a return to the premier division.

Ryan Turner opened the scoring early on by nodding in from close range, before Aaron Harper-Penman made it 2-0 by converting Lee Francis' cross.

Dave Pearse was then brought down in the box and Jed Harper-Penman fired in the penalty to put the game firmly beyond doubt before half-time.

Barnstaple were able to control the game in the second half, and added a fourth through a smart finish from substitute Will Nicholls.

Saturday will see the club celebrating its 2,500 games in the Western League with a special 'pay what you want' initiative for fans.

Supporters going to the home game against Warminster Town will be able to pay as much or as little as they want to watch the game, and a commemorative programme will also be on offer.

A win would secure promotion, and give them a great chance of winning this year's first division title.
