Barnstaple Ability FC are celebrating after winning a national competition for a £1,000 football makeover.

The club for players with additional needs entered the competition by equipment manufacturer Forza, and made it to the final where they beat Holyhead Hotspur, Wardle FC and Plymouth Phoenix Girls FC in a public vote.

The result means the club will now be boosted by £1,000 of Forza training equipment.

Barnstaple Ability FC coach Melanie Regan said: “This is an amazing achievement for our standalone ability football club.

“Being totally self funded and run by a group of dedicated volunteers this win will help us to continue to provide top quality football coaching for North Devon’s disabled footballers.”

The club was in Tavistock on Sunday for the third Devon FA Ability Counts tournament of the season.

All of Barnstaple’s five teams put in good performances. Olly Corbin earned the man of the match award for Barnstaple’s third team for this team play.
