Joe Barker scored twice for Appledore to ensure safe passage in the Throgmorton Devon Premier Cup on Saturday against lower league opposition.

The South West Peninsular League Division One East side beat North Devon Gazette League Premier Division leaders Torridgeside 5-2 at Donnacroft.

The Fishermen made the short trip to Torrington on the back of two league draws but went 4-0 up inside the first 30 minutes.

The first was an own goal and others soon followed courtesy of Barker (2), Brian Levine and Harry Stevens.

Appledore's reward is a December 5 third round tie against either Boca Seniors or Ilfracombe Town, who play this Saturday.

In the Firewatch Devon Senior Cup, Braunton Reserves squeaked through to the fourth round with a 3-2 win against Northam Lions.

Braunton scored two goals in the last minute of the match against a well-organised Northam outfit, which ran out of steam in the closing stages.

With several players missing, Braunton gave a full debut to 16-year-old Brad Williams.

Goals by CJ Roberts (2) and Ben Aitken mean Braunton will play the winner of Woolacombe & Mortehoe and Hartland, who meet on Saturday.

Braunton are at home to Pilton Academicals in the quarter-final of the Combe Martin Cup on Saturday. Kick-off at Lobb Field is at the earlier time of noon.

Chivenor were heavily beaten for the second time in a fortnight, this time by Chulmeligh in the day's other senior cup game.

The hosts won 7-1 and will play either Cheriton Fitzpaine or Sampford Peverell in the fourth round.

In the A & S Paving Devon Intermediate Cup, Clovelly beat Ilfracombe Town Reserves 2-1 to set up a fourth round tie against Winkleigh or Lifton in the area semi-final on December 5.

In the other half of the draw, Sporting Barum or Barnstaple Reserves will play either Hartland Reserves or Fremington Reserves.
