Black and Whites edge Woolacombe in nine-goal thriller
CLOVELLY came out on top in an enthralling Intermediate One mid-table clash at home to Woolacombe & Mortehoe.
The Black and Whites were 5-4 winners after clawing back a 2-0 deficit.
Chay Isaac and Andrew Woodman opened for the visitors but Clovelly came back through Ian Chann, Nick Brazier and Keiron Vanstone.
After the break, Paddy Weathers made it 3-3 with a trademark free-kick but Stuart Burgees bagged the hosts’ fourth.
Woodman got his second of the game with a bullet header to even the scores at 4-4 and after Ash Burton saved Mark Turner’s penalty, Aaron Kear grabbed the late winner.
There was more success for Clovelly on Sunday when they beat Fremington on penalties in the first round of the Braunton Cup. Alan Lawrence gave them the lead before Fremington hit back to send the game into extra-time and penalties.
In Intermediate Two, Matthew Dellar came off the bench to score two goals for Pilton Academicals Reserves in a 3-1 win at Torridgeside Reserves. Both were laid on by fellow sub Adam Gregory as the Accies added to Shane King’s early strike.
Also in the division, Fremington put nine past Anchor Chiefs without reply. There were two goals each for Andy Sanders, Andy King and Darren Vaughan and singles for Cory Roach and Lee Chapple.
