The Fishermen beat Ilfracombe Town Thirds 1-0 at Hollands Park on Saturday evening to lift the North Devon Senior league cup. Substitute Nathan Davis scored the decisive goal, tapping in from close range with 15 minutes to go to secure the silverware. Appledore manager Andrew Taylor said: I thought we were dominant to be fair. We gave them limited chances and we just couldnt put the ball in the net. It was a very good game, very feisty - it was just a really good final. I think it could have been three or four at half time. We hit the post and the bar, just about did everything but score. The two sides both won silverware last season, with Appledore taking the Intermediate One title and Ilfracombe winning the Arlington Cup. The Fishermen are also still in contention to be promoted from the Senior this season, in what would cap off an excellent couple of seasons. Its very pleasing, said Taylor. If you had said to me a year ago wed get promoted from Intermediate One, win the Combe Martin Cup and might get promoted again - I would have taken it. Things are looking good.
