Appledore beat Elmore 2-1 at Witheridge last night to seal their place in the Throgmorton Devon Premier Cup final.

Appledore booked their place in the Throgmorton Devon Premier Cup last night (Thursday) with a 2-1 victory over Elmore.

Goals from Mark Cann and James Marsh took the Fishermen 2-0 up in the tie held at Witheridge.

Elmore got a goal back from a Jon Dawe free kick, but were not able to find an equaliser.

Appledore will now face Newton Abbot Spurs in the final on May 5.

Elmore started the brighter side, twice getting in behind the Appledore defence, but were unable to get the opening goal.

But the Fishermen started to settle into the game, going close on a number of occasions.

Cann, who started further forward than usual, eventually opened the scoring after half an hour, tapping in from Harry Stevens' squared ball.

Appledore took their momentum into the second half, with Marsh doubling the lead five minutes after the match had resumed.

Stevens was again the architect of the goal, beating a couple of defenders before finding Marsh, who smashed the ball in off the post from 25 yards.

Elmore got back into the game with Dawe's free kick and nearly equalised when Bradley Newberry rounded keeper Joe Tickle only for his attempt to be headed behind a fantastic diving header by Seth Hodorowski.
