TORRINGTON and Libbaton Golf Clubs are both through to the finals day of the Palairet Cup county competition.Libbaton beat last year's winners Fingle Glen 3-2 at Holsworthy to reach the finals for the first time in its 20th anniversary year, while Torrington reached the finals for the fourth time in eight years with a 3-2 win over Churston at Woodbury Park.A 6 and 5 win by Steve Herniman and Peter Short was quickly followed up by a 4 and 3 win by Brian Stevens and Ron Screech before Libbaton clinched their place in the finals with a win on the 18th hole by Jason Middleton and Sam Raymont.Jack Stevenson and Steve Schofield gave Torrington a good start with an opening 2 and 1 win, but a tense match saw all the other games go to the 18th green.Peter Stevenson and Mark Hill lost one-down, Tony Gooch and Gary Petherbridge won one-up to restore the lead before Mark Coles and Mike McLeod lost one-down for the scores to go level again. Ron Greenslade and Paul Wheeler went to the last one-up and par was enough to secure the victory.
