Jack Langford had to be on form in his first fight of the season but was able to beat Adam Harper of Worcester ABC. The Bideford ABC boxers opponent is currently is ranked in the top four in England in the weight class above him. But Langford showed him no respect, firing off with lightning fast hands, catching Harper straight through the middle of his guard as Harper tried to march forward. Harper upped the pressure in the 2nd but Langford showed quality footwork to use the whole ring and stay out of trouble, bringing Harper onto his clean shots. A strong backhand from Langford towards the end of the round made Harper think before he came in again as his head was jolted back and his legs stiffened. The Bideford man was ahead going into the last but didnt sit back and showed he was comfortable to stand and trade with the heavier man and in general looked the busier of the two boxers. Langford won the bout by a unanimous points decision, and his talent was recognised by professional ex-middleweight world champion Cornelius Carr, who awarded him the boxer of the night trophy. Langford will be the main event at Bidefords dinner show at the Durrant hotel on November 22. To see him in action call Dick Kersey on 07841 846552.
