Despite horrendous weather, moods were far from dampened at Paignton's first annual Regatta where Appledore Pilot Gig Club stole the show.Appledore who faced tough opposition which included clubs from Plymouth, Swanage and Teignmouth, had their first success in the men's veterans' race. The team finished second with a time of 15 minutes and one second, just nine seconds behind the hosts, Paigton. The men's A team then took third place in their race. But it was the Under 16 team in the last competition of the event who stepped up to win Appledore's first race. The crew consisting of Jamie Evans, Luke Hasted, Matt Cox, Dan Fisher, Colin Eastman and Sam Martin rowed superbly to finish first. Appledore will next be rowing at the Clovelly Regatta on Saturday.
