Ilfracombe secured promotion to Devon One with a comprehensive 47-0 win at one-time league leaders Dartmouth. The North Devon side have not played their rugby outside the bottom tier for more than a decade they were relegated at the end of the 2005-06 season but knew a bonus point in this game would change that. At half-time they led thanks to tries from Jack Marriott and Dave Griffiths. In the second half they secured the bonus point they needed with Darren Light at the centre of proceedings with a hat-trick of tries. Jay OBeirne and Radford Chugg grabbed the other tries while Dan Brierley contributed six successful conversions on an afternoon to celebrate for Ilfracombe. Head coach James Creek was delighted with the team. He said: Its a class result, weve not beaten Dartmouth since 2001. It shows how much weve come on in the last four or five years and everything has clicked this season. North Devon rugby is really on the up. Torrington will join Ilfracombe in Devon One next season after they were awarded a home walkover from their scheduled home game against Devonport HSOB. Their promotion was made possible by Old Technicians 11-10 defeat at the hands of Buckfastleigh. Torrington make the long trip to Old Technicians this Saturday afternoon.
