Ilfracombe Healthy Town scheme comes to an end with a tournament to mark the occasion

THE Ilfracombe Healthy Town Project officially ends on Thursday of next week (June 30) and to mark the occasion organisers plan to recreate a six-a-side volleyball tournament that proved so successful last year.

The competition, held in association with the Academy of Beach Sports, will take place at Ilfracombe Rugby Club tomorrow evening from 6-9pm. It is free to enter and food, drinks and entertainment will be on offer.

The year long Healthy Town programme has generated a host of initiatives and activities for all ages, designed to enable everyone to become healthier and more active.

Jon Child, Ilfracombe Healthy Town development worker, said “Last year’s tournament was fantastic because so many local people were so enthusiastic about the event. We would love to see the same again this year.”

Last time a total of 24 teams competed against each other and it is hoped to attract similar interest this year.

To enter a team for the tournament visit Transform in the High Street or or call (01271) 867131.
