The summer had arrived in Lyme Regis on a scorching hot day for Ilfracombe’s rowers.

The heat made the rowing tough going and with world champions Newquay in attendance the pressure was on.

The men's supervets started the day's rowing well with a convincing win.

The ladies' supervets also put in a sterling performance to clinch second in their race.

The Ilfracombe ladies' A had a hard-fought race with the world champions in their race and they knew they had to pull out all the stops.

All of the crews got off to a good start with Ilfracombe and Swanage both chasing down Newquay with a fantastic burst of power.

Ilfracombe broke free of Swanage and put their all in to achieve second place. However, Newquay's crew had been 'declared', which meant that Ilfracombe actually won.

The Ilfracombe men's vets also had a comfortable win with a great show of strength coming from Richard Jeffrey and Chris Crowe with the home crew of Lyme Regis in second place.

The men's C also had a good race, finishing fourth.

The juniors had a hard-fought race against strong opposition and came fourth out of 10 crews.

Ilfracombe came second overall out of the 14 competing clubs. The next regatta is at Appledore on Saturday, August 22.
