Ilfracombe brought it level with a well-worked try from winger Jamie Matthews.

Matthews found himself on the end of Combe's second try in a move that started on their own line and went through many hands on the way.

Fly-half Will Grant potted the extras for a 12-5 lead at the break.

Wessex came back after the break with a penalty from scrum-half Dan Morris.

Ilfracombe pressed the Wessex line but were hit by an interception try from flanker Sam Adams.

The visitors lost prop Darren Bowen to an early bath with 10 minutes remaining.

Having led for most of the match, Ilfracombe tried to get back in front. But with penalty kicks from Grant and Gary Hutchings going astray, it wasn't going to be their day.
