A good mix of fish topped with a fine specimen smoothound ensured a lively weigh in for the North Devon League heat at the weekend. Nathan Clements hauled in a good hound of 12lb 14 ounces or 128.75 per cent to give him first place for Bideford A. An excellent ballan wrasse for the North Devon coast of 4lb 10 ¼ oz (103.425) gave Andrew Atkinson second place for Appledore while Steve Luxton had a bass of 6lb 9 ¾ oz to give Barnstaple Rod n Reelers third. Several 3lb-plus mullet, another bass and hound were weighed in. The next league heat is on the weekend of August 8/9 with the weigh in at Appledore. Nathans smoothie took first in Bideford Angling Clubs 24 hour roving competition, Taz Wotton second with a thin-lipped mullet of 3lb 7 oz (85.937). Third went to Andy Clements with a thick-lipped mullet of 3lb 5 ¼ while Antony Smith was fourth with a hound of 7lb 11 ¾. Stafford Moor Fishery saw Martin Heard win the open on Sunday after a relatively hard days fishing that saw him weigh in with 128lb 30z or 26 fish. Meanwhile, Adam Sharpe had a 29lb ½ oz carp from Beatties lake on the inlet swim, while previously Kieren Taylor caught 23 fish in 48 hours from the Beatties beach swim.
