An excellent run in the early rounds of the Ladies County Singles took Barnstaple Bowling Club’s Toni McNeil into the semi quarter finals at Newton Abbott BC.

A semi quarter win against Anita Huxtable, 21–12, gave her progress into the quarters against county assistant secretary and current Johns Trophy member Kay Page from Plymouth. Although giving a spirited display Toni exited the competition with a credible score line 14–21.

Today (Wednesday) sees clubmate John Short playing in the semi quarter finals of the men’s equivalent event at Braunton. Playing Tiverton`s John Bawden in his first match, he faces strong opposition. Should he progresses, his strong half of the draw includes last season’s champion and newly capped International Rob Paxton from Exonia.

Travelling to Dorchester with the Johns Trophy team proved a wasted journey for Jackie Hemmings-Anthony as their national quarter final match against Surrey was postponed because of the weather until this Saturday.

A full day’s play in the Morchard Bishop Ladies Triples tournament resulted in third place for Barum team mates Liz Purdon, Jas Evans and Marion Redfern.
