ONE hundred and twenty eight Devon golf captains arrived at Saunton to celebrate their 75th anniversary with a special individual Stableford event.

Only the Liverpool and London Past Captains Associations have been in existence longer than Devon and, to mark the occasion, Dr Nayyar Naqvi past captain Liverpool Captains was invited to address the members as the guest after dinner speaker.

Despite near perfect weather conditions Saunton’s east and west courses provided a stiff test, with the rough areas reflecting the recent ideal conditions for growth.

While all others paid the price for missed fairways, Saunton’s Brian Warren rose to the occasion to finish six strokes clear of the field on the championship east course with a superb 43 points. A real indication of the test was the winning score of 34 points on the west course by Max Pipe of Honiton
