BOXING enthusiasts were given the chance to get "ringside" with one of the true great legends of the sport at a packed sportsmen's gala dinner in Bideford on Thursday night.The evening with Frank Bruno at the Durrant House Hotel gave fans the chance to quiz the charismatic former WBC world heavyweight champion about his life in the ring, and out.Bruno spent the evening at the top table with Bideford Amateur Boxing Club head coach Dick Kersey, club treasurer Jeff Facey and up-and-coming senior boxer, 18-year-old Richard Grigg.After dinner, he spent a good 30 minutes fielding questions from fans on all aspects of his career, from his showdowns with Mike Tyson, to a post-boxing turn as a star of pantomime.Mr Kersey said that the event was the first celebrity sportsman's dinner the club had put on."It was a fantastic success and we would hope to arrange a similar event this time next year," he said.Tickets are currently on sale for Western Counties ABA Senior Championships being held at Bideford Pannier Market on March 29.
